Starting from High Camp at the end of the Timber Camp Trail, I bushwhacked up the slope just west of Painted Cliff, eventually reaching the top of the cliff proper. I found some of the woods up there to be near-impenetrable, maybe one level of difficulty below the woods behind Little East Pond, but the views from the top of the cliff were well worth the effort! I then ascended the ridge up to East Osceola’s summit and descended on the Mt. Osceola Trail for 2/10ths of a mile, until I reached the northwestern-facing viewpoint just above the chute; here I left the trail and fought my way across the ridge to a set of ledges located at 3740ft. These ledges turned out to be spectacular, with flat surfaces to sit on and wide views. From here, my next destination was East Osceola’s Northeast Spur Slide, which I reached after an hour of whacking down the northern ridge. Great foliage views from this slide, and a straightforward exit to the Greeley Ponds XC Ski Trail. |
