Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Everything was a very easy rock hop.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trails in great shape. Black Angel has plenty of blowdowns but nothing crazy or difficult
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Despite it being extremely dry there was plenty of water for Fin. Only long dry stretch was upper portion of Black Angel to bottom of Rainbow. I can imagine that in high water a lot of these crossings would be pretty sketchy for dogs, but right now it is great. The several tricky scrambles on the very top section of Black Angel aren't too terrible for an experienced athletic dog-there were two that gave Fin a good pause to figure out but she made it up on her own. I imagine lots of dogs might need a boost on one or two of these.

Comments
Comments: Did a big figure 8 from Wild River Campground to pick up a bunch of new redlines. First time in Wild River Wilderness and it did not disappoint. Hiked a lot of Black Angel in the dark and made it to Mt. Hight by 7AM where we enjoyed being the only hikers there. Fin had a good minute long howling session to display her dominance of the mountain:) Encountered our first hikers on Carter Dome Summit where I discovered the three twenty-somethings headed to the Imp Shelter were going to SKIP Hight?!?! I educated them on the ease of the trail and magnificence of the views and they said they were going to alter their route. YOU'RE WELCOME!!! Rainbow Trail is awesome as advertised-the colors down low on that trail right now are really poppin and I see how it got its' name! The brook section of Basin Trail is remarkably interesting and pleasant. The entire area is gorgeous right now with the foliage go get it while it's hot!!!
