Comments
Comments: I submitted this report to make a few comments with respect to our descent via the Cog ROW. To save ourselves from the long Gulfside/Jewell slog, we decided to take this route down. We used the cleared area/service road next to the tracks and did not walk on (or too near) the tracks themselves. A relatively quick, direct route down. A good route in bad visibility (not a factor on this day) since you can use the tracks to guide you down. We stayed on North side of tracks for start of the descent and crossed over near the Waumbek stop (about 4,000 feet). Trail a mix of conditions from loose rocks to soft sand/charcoal residue, to grass road with dirt ruts down lower. Saw a number of trains ascending and descending, including one of the old steam trains. Train crews were friendly. The biodiesel trains are quiet. You did not hear them until they were close by.

As to the other trails: Some minor ice on upper Ammo. This will become more problematic if temps remain cold and we finally get some precipitation.
