Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: None. A few dry beds that were not wide, so maybe when there is water they may be o.k.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Blowdowns are between Sandwich Road and Doublehead. There are some ancient bogboards which have seen better days and are slowly disintegrating. On the way back, I broke one just by stepping on it. Sorry about that. Thanks
Dog-Related Notes

Comments
Comments: Possibly one of the most underrated trails I have ever been on. We started at the Sandwich Notch Road end and went a little bit beyond Squam Mtn before turning back. Having walked that road a few weeks ago, I figured it was o.k. to slowly drive the Corolla to the trailhead. We were the first there, so I turned the car around so it would be facing the way we would be leaving. We pulled up as far and as safely as possible. You could probably get 2-3 vehicles here.

First part of trail is a steep climb with a scary scramble shortly after the beginning. Trail flattens out later on, beautiful woodswalk, gentle on the feet. Great variety of trees. groups of evergreens, then suddenly hardwoods. Some color is here and there. The trail starts to get a lot of ups and downs near the two summits of Doublehead and on the way to Squam Mtn. Lovely little bog pond as well. Nice views from ledges. Excellent choice for Plague Hiking - saw only a few people.

Cliff scramble was exceptionally scary on the descent, but I've lived to write about it.
