Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: A lot to unpack here ... John Wolter Trail: A smooth gravel road for 1.3 mi., then a grassy logging road the rest of the way. The logging road portion has some unmarked turns where it's not clear which direction to go. Joan Wolter Trail: Not an established trail at all, but an overgrown logging road. Same with Spencer Eastman Traverse. The short section of O'Brien's Way I was on was also a logging road, but is in somewhat better shape. I found a fallen sign and post along this trail and propped it up, but am not 100% sure it's in the right place. Any blazing is very sparse although signage along the first 1.3 mi. of John Wolter Trail is good.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: I guess.

Bugs: Nope.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Nothing.

Comments
Comments: An interesting summit area, but these trails aren't quite ready for prime time. Easy walking up to the large cabin at 1.3 mi., which looks like it's being renovated. There was a crew there today. There's also a cool cabin just shy of the summit with a fantastic view to Moosilauke. The recognized high point is about 275 ft. behind this cabin and very easily found. The descent on Joan Walter Trail, Spencer Eastman Traverse and O'Brien's Way was part instinct and part map due to the overgrown conditions and lack of markings. I suspect all of these trails are much better in winter.
