Turned onto East Inlet Road off of Route 3 in Pittsburg. After the bridge took a right at the T-junction. Drove about 13 miles to the right turn onto Boundary Pond Road: the first 9 miles were nice, maintained road, the next section had some rocks and potholes but was drivable in our Jeep. Boundary Pond Road uphill and a bit eroded in spots but we and a truck and van all made it. Parked in the lot on Boundary Pond Road just before the gate. |

Sentiers Frontaliers was a pretty nice trail with a bit of a wilderness feel in sections. Well blazed with red triangles. |

Started down the continuation of Boundary Pond Road maybe less than .1 mile when we spotted an over grown old woods road which we figured was the smuggler's road mentioned in previous reports. We cut into the woods following this road, overgrown and with some blowdowns for about a mile. Ended up at a the border swath where we found the ATV road FranM had mentioned. A bit muddy from last night's rain but luckily we soon came to the crossing of the blazed Sentiers Frontaliers (SF) trail. Took a right onto the trail and climbed moderately steep at times (less so than the border swath) all the way to a height of land and the border swath. Followed the trail along the border swath all the way to the summit. The recognized highpoint was just into the woods on the USA side of the swath. On the return, we cut into the woods where the SF trail did and followed it the rest of the way down, coming out onto the border swath again for a bit then back into the woods. Once we reached the ATV trail, we turned left and headed towards the smuggler's road which we followed back to the road and our car. |
