Comments
Comments: Out-and-back via the centennial trail, which I think was the right call. It’s a bit long but I found the footing to be excellent pretty much the entire way, except for that last climb to the top of “East Hayes”. Outside of the steep sections it was a pleasant route, which from I read does not really apply to the Mahoosuc trail approach from Gorham.

I get the impression that many hikers who use this approach don’t make it to the south ledges, and in fact we passed a couple who didn’t. It’s about 0.3 from the “summit” (which isn’t really marked but you can guess where it is pretty easily), and there’s a a short, steep pitch before you reach it. You don’t want to miss this because otherwise the views you will get are meh, and it’s a pretty nice place to relax!

Met a few day hikers, as well as some Labor Day backpackers. A bit surprised not to meet any thru-hikers, however.
