Trails: Slippery Brook Trail, Eastman Mountain Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Wednesday, August 26, 2020
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Had no issues whatsoever with the access roads. At the end of the road, there seems to be limited parking that can fit maybe 6 vehicles or so-only three today when we returned. I doubt this trail gets much more traffic on busier days.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: None
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Despite what was written in the WMG, we didn't have any issues following Slippery Brook. Past the logging road section, there were a few step-over blowdowns; all easy. Otherwise, the trails were in better than expected shape.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Didn't see any, probably a fun one for them. It's really dry out there so pack some extra water.
Bugs
Bugs: Some biters in the first half-mile or so from the trailhead, otherwise the breeze knocked them down.

Comments
Comments: Took the little used southern section of slippery brook to access Eastman. Although rather long (nearly 10 miles), we found this approach to be more of a pleasant walk than a hike until the last climb near the summit. If you don't mind walking long distances, then you might find this to be one of the easier 52 WAV hikes! Did not see a soul on slippery brook, but met a few people at or near the summit. I was expecting a somewhat sketchy and perhaps boring trail going in, but in reality it was so pleasant that I ended up enjoying it quite a bit.

Views at the top may not be panoramic, but I thought this summit was pretty underrated! You get an impressive view of South Baldface, which I heard from other hikers was a real freezer today. Interesting outlook towards Chocorua and the Sandwich range could be seen while sitting, and I found the view towards Evan's Notch/Speckled region quite nice as well. For peak that isn't so highly regarded on the 52 WAV, I thought it was a destination very much worth the time.
