Found a couple spots empty at 2pm at Lonesome Lake parking. As early birds were leaving, more spots were opening up. Only car left in the lot at 10pm |

| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Chopped out the 8" blowdown mentioned by Skidder earlier this month, on the Hi Cannon Trail.
Also took out the smaller blowdown recently described by KP5 on Kinsman Ridge trail.
Passed some wicked impressive ax work on the Kinsman Ridge Trail, thanks! All trails listed are now clear. |

| Dog-Related Notes: |
There isn't much water at all on this route, only the occasional puddle in a mud pit. It's also VERY rocky, with Hi Cannon requiring a lot of climbing over saw horse size jagged rocks. |

| Bugs: |
I sprayed, but only because mosquitoes started appearing when I started chopping. |

The plan was to get that blowdown Skidder mentioned, and see if the rain in the afternoon materialized, maybe go on up to Cannon. The unpredictable weather we've had lately worked to my favor this time, so I went on up to the tower, got there about 6:30. Hi Cannon was very dry. I had envigorating cool fall like weather most of the ascent, but as I worked my way around towards the view of Lonesome Lake, I also got more sun exposure, so it was back to sweating like a pig and feeling the sun sap my strength. That passed quickly though, as I was soon back in the trees making my way across the dome top. Hazy but nice views from the tower. Managed to get most of the way down the other side of the mountain, before it was headlamp time. I took the bike trail back, an idea I picked up from a Scottb report. Worked out pretty good, but there are some inclines on the path, it's not all downhill like in your car. I also got balled up at the Old Man viewing area, choosing to not believe the sign that said the bike path turned left and went thru a tunnel under the highway. That led to a surreal headlamp exploration of the Old Man viewing area, and dead-ending at Profile Lake on the two paths I chased down. At that point, I decided maybe the sign was right (dumbass!!) and I went back and crossed under the highway. I have to say for those long headlamp walks in pitch black darkness, it is somewhat comforting to have an ax in hand. And, as an old man, to be loosened up already! |
