Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Easily rock hoppable. Extremely low water levels. Many areas that look to be very wet in Spring, but bone dry in drought-ridden late August.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Large waist-high blowdown at 0.7m up, easy enough to walk around. Other blowdowns easy to avoid. Trail in excellent shape, especially in the steep upper section.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: One happy pup. A lot of soil on this trail, I think an athletic pup would enjoy this trail.
Bugs
Bugs: Few on ascent, many more on summit. Some biting.

Comments: If you're thinking of hiking Mt. Tremont, you're probably a peak-bagger, and likely have Ken's 52 With A View guidebook. A great book that will serve you well.

I'm finding the more soil/less rugged rocks of these medium-height peaks enjoyable, similar to Mts. Crawford, Parker, and Paugus. The brook side walk and open woods of the lower half are beautiful, then the fun starts above the descent to cross two dry creeks. Even then, the switchbacks aren't bad. Footing is generally good, and there is plenty to hold on to. Yes, the switchbacks keep coming, but I found them easier to navigate than the trail description made them sound. I recommend counting them to help pass the time. I got to 22.

Summit views well worth the effort. There is more to see than I expected. Sweeping views across the Livermore 'valley', and neat to see from a distance the serpentine Kanc rise up to its height of land crossing.

With the current nutty state of the world, perhaps we could use a temporary extra category for reliable 'facilities' stops near trailheads, such as:
1. The state-run Intervale scenic vista, normally staffed by friendly locals, is now only open Thurs-Mon 9a-5p.
2. There are two porta-potties at the north end of the lot at the Intervale scenic vista. Both are 'worst toilet in Scotland' filth, completely avoid.
3. When starting ones hike too late, the Dunkin' in Glen is utter 8am madness, with cars stretched onto Rt. 16. And the lobby is locked. Ugh.
4. There are two porta-potties at the south end of the lot at the Dunkin' in Glen. Both were sparkling clean.

Let's end on a positive note. Mt. Tremont is a great trail, an excellent workout, with beautiful summit views. Well worth your hike.
