Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Information (and I forget where I got it) was somewhat conflicting. i thought I had read that one of the lots at the South Pond recreation area was for hikers and there was no charge as long as you have the WMNF parking sticker. Day use (boating, swimming, fishing, cook outs, etc) is $7. The gentleman in charge told me hikers still had to pay, but when I told him we were backpacking, he said we didn't. Just park by the outhouse. Gate opens at 10, closes in the evening (forget when), and they do lock the gate.

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Going up, there were many dry beds. We camped out, it rained in the night, and several were active the next day. Regular crossings - two - not difficult. WARNING - Fill up any empty bottles at the second crossing, no reliable water after this.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Some of this trail is extremely brushy. There were some blow downs and evidence of a lot of hard work dispatching them. Thanks.

Comments
Comments: original plan was to stay out two nights. Basecamp at Rogers Ledge campsite and explore the area between there and Cabot. Started late in the day and got to Rogers ledge at night fall. The official campsite was still a halfmile away, so we stopped here. No signs forbidding camping, so we stayed there. Night sky was beautiful from the ledge, but not long after we went to sleep there was a thunderstorm. Nice undercast the next day.

This trail is not difficult, a luxurious green tunnel. But it was very slippery and took a while. First part is relatively flat, starts to pick up before you get to the ledge. There is a side trail that goes to the Devil's Hopyard, saved it for another day. Recreation area is pretty and has good amenities.

I know this is late, but it should do someone good looking for info.
