Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: at 11AM Ferncroft was overflowed well down the road. Was more overflowed at 2:00PM. Room for about 10 cars across from Cabin trailhead on 113. My car was the 6th at 2:05 and next to last one remaining at 4:45.

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Low and dry
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trails in great shape. One blowdown on Kelley trail halfway up. Old Paugus has a decent amount, as expected. Hats off to the WODC for all their hard work
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Experienced mountain pups should not have any problems with Walden or Old Paugus; however, they are rough and steep and not recommended for novice or out of shape dogs! the tricky broken ledge scramble on Walden was not nearly as bad as advertised-Fin made short, thoughtless work of it. The first hike had tons of water except for the section from Walden to Ferncroft. The second hike was very dry except for Whitin Brook. There was one other trickle a mile from Cabin Trailhead on Cabin Trail-otherwise it was really dry all over Paugus so carry extra.
Bugs
Bugs: none
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: one grey water shoe on a rock halfway down Lawrence Trail. left it there as I had no room for a nasty shoe in my hydration vest.

Comments
Comments: Nearly 16 miles of hiking and we saw ONE hiker at the very end of our hike coming down Cabin Trail. Based on the Ferncroft situation there must have been a few hundred people hiking Whiteface/Passaconoway at the same time today. Good for them! Walden Trail is steep as advertised and lots of fun. Big Rock Cave is a pretty neat feature and Old Paugus Trail was brutal-seemed to go on forever. The views from the top towards Whiteface/Passaconoway/etc. are out of this world. We watched some serious weather hitting surrounding mountains and managed to run to the car before the rain hit. Top half of Lawrence Trail is super gravelly-watch your step! After The Whitin Brook intersection the remaining Cabin Trail is a real snooze-fest. Another fine day of redlining with my beloved wannabe wolf.
