Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Sandwich Notch road from Rte 49 has had recent gravel filling and grading. like in maybe the last five days. don't know if it goes all the way to Sandwich, but the part I drove on was great.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: they all dried up!
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: major props to whomever maintains this trail. it is in excellent condition. sure, some of the blazes are faint, but you won't miss them. There were a few BIG blow downs chopped/sawed up and evidence of recent trimming. the best maintained trail in a wilderness area. very impressed!
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: the current lack of water would be troublesome for fido, and the pups might need a boost on some of the scrambley areas, but otherwise any dog with hiking experience would probably do just fine.
Bugs
Bugs: there were a few, but the cool temps and breeze kept them away.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: omg. nothing. no trash. i was amazed.

Comments
Comments: just needed Algonquin up to the junction with Flat Mtn Pond. I've been putting this trail off,(terrifying25) because i was afraid of scrambles and slippery rocks. But i went up and DOWN with no probs. sure, it's extremely dry, so there was no slipping, but if you go slow you'll be totally fine. And I think that kids would probably like this trail too. especially if you entice them with swimming at the end, in the river...when it's a normal wet year. probably the most terrifying part is the drive on Sandwich Notch Rd. I opted to park in a nice wide level pullout about a mile from the trailhead (and i'm glad i did) and walked about .75 to the TH. While it has been recently worked on, the blind corners/hills are terrifying. the best part of the whole day....i had the entire trip to myself!!!
