Comments
Comments: A great big thanks to Steve Smith for his blog post about his recent trip. My vacation was about to start (that's why I posted 4 hikes right now, wasn't home to do them daily) and here was this lovely possibility. Lovely walk on the decommissioned portion of the road. So many beautiful late summer flowers and a few raspberries and blackberries. Amazing to see the damaged inflicted by the hurricane! Then it becomes a nice forest service road. You get to the Benton Trail before you know it. A constant ascent with several short flat areas so you can catch your breath. At 1.3 miles there is a lovely view down into the ravine. Don't miss it! There is a flat area going through some scrubby evergreens further up. Meets up with the Beaver Brook Trail and before long you are breaking through into the alpine area. We spent a good 90 minutes there. One of he best hikes I've done! Met two SOBOs. An easy summit to social distance on. And I got back to the car in less than 4 hours. Not that I'm rushing, but it was a surprise for someone like me. A great way up Moosilauke.
