Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: After leaving Rt 3 the first 5 miles are on a well-maintained gravel road. At about 5 miles you turn onto the road that takes you to the parking area and trailhead. These last few miles are on gravel, not well-maintained, very rocky with a lot of potholes and exposed rocks. If you have one, or access to one, it will be better to bring an all-wheel drive vehicle, large truck, or just go slowly. Large parking area, probably space for a dozen cars.

Comments
Comments: For many of us this 52WAV includes the longest drive, for all of us the shortest and quickest ascent, and has hands down the best views of most of the 52s. Plan this one for a sunny day with clear skies. We were there late afternoon, the round trip up and back on Coots Trail was about 65 minutes. Beautiful views into Maine, Quebec, Vermont, and the Whites! Check out the view from the ledges; head NW from the fire tower, the path that goes to the right of and behind the cabins brings you right to the ledges.
