 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
At a grassy parking area before the gate on FR 211, 0.1 mi. from NH 118 in Warren. |
 | Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Mud - Significant |
 | Recommended Equipment: |
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
There are several stream crossings on this trail, none of which were an issue today, even after the storm. About 0.8 mi. in is a small flooded section which requires a short bushwhack around. About 1.9 mi. in, most of the 2016 relocation has been flooded by beavers and takes considerable care to bypass and rejoin the trail. |
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
After the first brook crossing and pretty much the rest of the way, this trail needs brushing. Blazing is OK, but it wouldn't hurt to be redone. Still many old metal and wood blazes along this route. A few minor blowdowns east of the height-of-land. I removed one small blowdown which was blocking the start of FR 211. |
 | Dog-Related Notes: |
They'd have plenty of water. :) |
 | Bugs: |
Mosquitoes were pretty bad, as this trail is generally wet. |
 | Lost and Found: |
Nothing. |

 | Comments: |
I walked this one from NH 118 to Hubbard Brook Rd. and back. The Three Ponds area is always an adventure, and I'm probably in the minority when I say I love the wild, overgrown trails in this region. I wish the proposed wilderness area designation had happened, because that's what it feels like out here.
Beavers have done a job on the 2016 relocation, wiping out most of it. Beaten paths get around the worst flooding, but I wouldn't recommend this trail for beginners. Looks like the relocation is going to need a relocation.
Generally wet conditions today following the storm, with one area of deep mud and water running in the trail where the beavers have taken over.
Zero humans sighted today, but lots of evidence of moose traffic. |
