Turned onto Millsfield Pond Road from 16N. Drove slightly over a mile to Deer Mountain Trail sign and turned left. Per Beth Z's suggestion, we drove .8 miles up Deer Mountain Trail to a grassy pullout just short of the 'bridge". A little rocky in spots but manageable. |

Continued up Deer Mountain Trail on foot for another .6 miles to a clearing with picnic tables. Saw a break in the woods to the left of the Cell Phone Reception sign and followed what seems to be a slightly visible path in to the woods towards the summit. The path eventually fizzled out. We had to negotiate one spruce band with some blowdowns before reemerging into nice woods for the rest of the moderate climb. Located the jar on a tall bump on the summit. Headed down the way we came but in trying to avoid the spruce band we headed a little too far right of our path and had to make our way up a steep spruce covered slope coming out not far from that barely discernible path back to the picnic tables. The rest was easy, down the road to the car. |
