| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Park in the small lot at the end of the Gorham railroad bridge on Rt 16. After walking across the RR bridge, take a sharp left to walk on the dirt road. Ignore the foot path that goes into the woods on the left. Bear left on the dirt road when the road forks(*), walk past the power dam (dam will be on your left as the dirt road curves to the right), and then turn left at the end of the dirt road to cross a wooden bridge over the power dam canal.
(*) If you bear right where the dirt road forks, turn left at the next T to walk to the wooden bridge over the power dam canal. This option takes you down the road the ATV's use, which is noisy, dusty, and generally unpleasant if there are a lot of ATV's out.
Immediately after crossing the wooden bridge over the power dam canal, turn right onto a trail in the woods. This trail will fork in 40' or so. Turn right for the AMC Mahoosuc Trail (small sign here). When this trail ends at a dirt road (Hogan Rd), turn right (small sign here too). Walk along Hogan Rd until you get to the Mahoosuc Trail. There are big warning signs about the canal across from trailhead on Hogan Rd. |

Gorham railroad bridge, dirt roads, Mahoosuc Trail
Socially-distanced hiking! The only people we saw the entire afternoon were in the constant stream of ATV's crossing the wooden power dam bridge and a few people on mountain bikes on Hogan Rd.
Mahoosuc Trail was easy to follow and well-maintained, though it's clearly a path less traveled. There's a brief muddy stretch and then footing gets a little more challenging as the trail approaches the ledge-with-a-view. WHAT A VIEW! After the view, the trail levels off and crosses more ledges before entering woods at the summit. |
