Parking/Access Road Notes:
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Ice - Black, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Snow/Ice - Small Patches, Snow - Trace/Minimal Depth, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Small crossings on Rocky Branch Trail flowing, but rock hopppable. Skipped all but the top (5th) crossing on Isolation Trail - tricky as it's running a bit high and some of the rocks were glazed in ice.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Lots of blowdowns on all trails. Removed dozens on Rocky Branch, up to the height of land, still more remain, mostly birch deadfall. Isolation Trail was especially bad below the campsite (above top water crossing) - I removed half a dozen from this stretch of trail, but some nasty patches still remain, including a virtual juggle gym that can't be avoided (thick on either side). I was able to cut up all of the blowdowns on the Davis Path between Isolation and Isolation Trail.

Comments
Comments: Patchy snow started at about 2,000 feet (on the way back, everything was getting a dusting of snow). Barebooted to height of land, through Engine Hill (patchy, never more than 3-6" of granular), up Isolation Trail (basically a brook right now) and up to Davis Path. Put on snowshoes on Davis Path, though there were still extended sections of bare trail. Some drifting, but generally not more than 8". Microspikes might be good for the little scramble up to the summit of Isolation. Snowshoes weren't really needed today, but might be nice above 3,000' after next snowfall (tonight?).
