Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Water crossings on Gale River Trail a little dicey - thought I was home-free at the 3rd crossing, but, slipped and fell in well up to my hip - filled up both boots on the scramble to get out, but, that was good b/c it was cooler that way :) Also, crossed over 13 Falls - feet wet again, oh well!!!
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: upper portions of Twin Brook Trail very brushy and some chainsaw-ready blowdowns. Franconia Brook Tr above 13 Falls was a wet mess - is it *really* a trail????
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes:
Bugs
Bugs: Gale River Trail and 13-falls areas surprisingly bug-free. Black flies attacked at the Garfield trail - VERY vexing!!!! Still avoided the deet, tho.

Comments
Comments: Awesome day with no summit views. Startled a moose & calf on Gale River Trail. Rocks slippery/greasy all the way to Garfield. Great to run into Gary T on Galehead, then, Ed & Guy on Garfield. LOVED Twin Brook Trail: the lower portions near 13 falls were FILLED with huge areas/masses of hobblebush in white bloom amongst glades of birch set against the hazy white sky with the slight green edge of Owl's Head peeking out above - just AWESOME - you gotta see this area - nice wide skidder roads, too!!!! 13-falls area GORGEOUS with the overarching shoulder of Owl's Head - nice and sunny there. Garfield Ridge trail was very slippery/greasy in general, and, the trail/steeps going up the cone to Garfield formed a nice waterfall. At the end of the day, a NICE dip in the Gale River was just perfect!!!!
