Comments
Comments: Shoulder blisters got infected, so decided time to get more serious about trying out this trail running thing, and run without a pack. Got my ass kicked good. Again. Just like when I tried bushwhacking, I know have immense respect for anyone who can pull this off. I basically couldn't jog more than ten or fifteen steps at a time without panting like a dog, and after the first half mile I mostly just tried to walk fast uphill and keep my wind and heart rate up at this new pace. I took a break at the top and was able to jog all the way down okay, but it really wiped me out. Which is good. It means there's so much room for improvement, that it'll really help my winter 4000 footer training.
The foot bed was a little damp, like very hard packed mud that was almost dry. There were several areas where the footing was great like this. But then you had to start picking your way thru rocks. The rocks were pretty slick and I fell twice, so be careful.
Cell reception was great. I listened to Pandora at the summit and had the place to myself so I cranked up War Pigs and played drums on my legs like a fool and no one even knew. I recommend Animals As Leaders, the pace of the song The Joy of Motion is perfect for picking your way thru rocks at a jog. Finish sprint at the end of the hike to Rush 2112. Really helps keep the old fool moving!
