We walked up the CT (North bound) until it crossed the first sizable brook and began a whack toward Moran, first aiming for a ridge shoulder and then following the ridge toward the summit in fairly open woods below and a little scrappy as we approached the HOL. Frome here we backtracked for a short bit and then headed for the Notch descending steeply at first and then picking our way through mossy covered boulders. From the notch we headed westerly and to bypass the cliffs and then headed southerly up toward the summit on very steep footing. Finding the HOL and signing to both peaks we hurried away from the flies, again continuing to follow a ridge southerly and then heading s-easterly to cross the stream and back up to the CT about 1.25 miles from the car. This was a pretty difficult day, not sure if it was the terrain, the bugs, or the 90 degree temps and very high humidity. CLothing was as wet as if I went swimming with everything on. |
