Peaks Covell Mountain, NH
Trails
Trails: Cohos Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Saturday, July 4, 2020
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: There are a few spots at the border but no overnight or multi day parking. The rangers frown on that.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Mud - Significant
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All large water crossings are bridges.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Where do I start? The Cohos is severely overgrown in many sections at the northern end. Several of these over grown sections hide old blowdowns. And speaking of blow downs, for the 26 miles I hiked, there were plenty. I understand that COVID has prevented trail work but, a lot of this is way more than COVID has created.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: I would not take a dog on the Cohos Trail period.
Bugs
Bugs: Yup... I got the bites to prove it. Part of the journey.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: NA

Comments
Comments: I had set out to do 12 days on the Cohos. Only made it 3 before I called it quits. The trail is just too overgrown and hard to follow for us. Not our type of hike. Not even type 2 fun to be had. I learned a ton though and I am glad I at least tried.
