 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
At the formal trailhead, at the end of the unmaintained portion of Howe Hill Rd. in Benton. |
|
 | Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail |
|
 | Recommended Equipment: |

|
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
Both brook crossings are dribbles right now. I don't even know where that water is coming from. A poor bird near the summit seemed ecstatic to find a tiny puddle. Mud has mostly dried up. |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
The trail is still sporadically blazed, and erosion is still an issue in the upper half. A few blowdowns but nothing complicated. |
|
 | Dog-Related Notes: |
Sure, but bring water. |
|
 | Bugs: |
Meh. They were out and being slightly annoying, but not too terrible. |
|
 | Lost and Found: |
Nothing. |

This approach doesn't get the love that Chippewa Trail does, but I like it for its smoother footing and mostly gentle grades; it's a lovely walk in the woods. It rained a bit on the ascent, but nothing close to making a dent in the drought, and any water that fell disappeared immediately. I arrived to stormy skies on the summit, but the sun quickly took over. The Whites looked like they were getting dumped on from here.
A quiet day on the mountain; only a few other people out. |
