Walked up Potato Hill Road from our parking spot for about .2 miles and entered a snowmobile road. (Why follow everyone else's directions when you can make your own trail...) Nice easy bushwhack following snowmobile trails much of the time. Popped out on an ATV trail (closed right now) and took a left towards Potato Hill Road. Turned right then after a short distance took a left onto a road marked Private, No Snowmobiles. When we could see there was a house up ahead, we started our bushwhack up to the summit through nice open woods and only moderate climb. Off and on old woods roads, one of which got us pretty far up. Bushwhacked to the flat summit then hit a number of bumps before finding the recognized high point. Took a heading towards the road trying to stay as close to our path up so we could catch that road. Found it and followed it all the way to a new growth area. We kept to the perimeter of this section and soon came onto the road almost at the fork for the closed section of trail. Walked down the road to the car: a little steeper this way so didn't feel so bad about not taking it up! Hot, hot day! |
