Hiking Trail Conditions Report
Peaks
Peaks Mt. Pierce, NH
Trails
Trails: Crawford Path, Webster Cliff Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Saturday, June 13, 2020
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Crawford Notch already had lots of cars parked on the side of the road just past 9am. You can park at the AMC Highland Cenger for $10. We opted to park right where Crawford Path crosses the road between the AMC Highland Center and the woods. There is no trail sign there and this is not the usual route (most people park on Mt Clinton Rd and take the Crawford Connector).
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Mud - Significant

Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: The trail is unblazed but easy to follow. A couple blowdowns next to or just barely reaching into the trail but nothing at all of concern. Lots of erosion unfortunately but that’s expected on such a well travelled trail. The one thing I did find concerning was that the Crawford Path trail sign at the jct of Crawford Path and Mizpah Cutoff had arrows for the AT in both directions...and yet the AT doesn’t do that way. The trails signs near the summit of Pierce make that clear. Perhaps they put it there to guide AT hikers back to the proper trail?
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Saw several. Some unleashed but all were behaved well enough.
Bugs
Bugs: None! :D
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Some trash on the trail including a bunch on M&Ms. Unfortunate since they’re chocolate and would be harmful to a dog that gobbled them up.

Comments
Comments: A simple out-and-back to Pierce. Very glad my mother finally got to do this (and dad too!) as she’s been a looking forward to it for years. Unfortunately it was a cold day that was mostly in the clouds. We did get some views from the summit though!

Starting from where we were cut off 0.4mi round trip. We saw several dozen other people out so it was busy but didn’t feel crowded. People were pretty good and kind about social distancing. In fact I was astounded at the number of people that were wearing masks.

Lots of minor wet spots on the trail. I think it doesn’t drain very well due to the erosion. Not too much mud as the trail is often eroded down to rock. I was surprised to see a couple minor areas of running water down the trails and even some wet rock. No snow was seen!
