 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
As we were already up in the Cedar Stream area, we backtracked the Cedar Stream Road, turning left onto the Deadwater Loop Road (its east end). At 2.5 miles, we passed the first left onto Whipple Ridge Road (ATV/muddy) and drove to the 3.3 mile mark, turning left onto Whipple Ridge Road’s western end which was dry and in fine shape. We turned left onto Hedgehog Road, driving 0.6 mile south towards the peak. Parked along the road across from a logging regrowth field, west of the peak. |

overgrown logging roads, bushwhack
From the satellite images we knew there were old logging roads, full of regrowth, heading easterly to the peak. Thanks to Damon R., we knew there would be nice moose herd paths through the regrowth. The first few steps through the field took us through prickers, but sure enough, once on the overgrown road, a series of moose herd paths took us up within yards of the summit. We found the jar in a small cluster of tight young trees. We came out exactly the same.
Quick and easy approach. Another successful hike with JEM3 as we close down on the NH500. Fourth for the day!
