Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: The paring area is a pull out on the west side of 16N between Jackson and Pinkham Notch. You can see the trailhead sign from the road but it would still be easy to drive by. Room for a half dozen plus cars if parked considerately but I’ve never seen more than a few there. Just us and one other around 4:30pm. Only one there on our return at 6:15pm.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Mud - Significant
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The water crossing at the very beginning is a wade. I’m 5’10” and the water was almost up to my knees. Pretty cold! Nothing else.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: I don’t believe the trail was blazed but it was still easy to follow as it mostly follows an old road. It’s signed where it intersects with the ski path. An end of trail sign and a sign for the spur to the falls which we had trouble finding would be nice. One small blowdown across the trail right after the crossing at the beginning and another, small-mid sized tree down on the logging road that was easy enough to walk over or around. The other one at the beginning had a path through the brush around it. Both could be handled with a small handsaw.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Should be a fine trail for dogs. The trail goes through some brush after the water crossing so your dog may pick up several ticks.
Bugs
Bugs: They were out. I recommend bug spray. The trail goes through a brushy area after the water crossing so I’d check for ticks.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: A few pieces of trash including a mask.

Comments
Comments: A nice little evening redline with a friend :) We did Thompson Falls Trail in the afternoon as well which I’ll post on a separate report. Only one other group on trail which was a father and young daughter marveling at nature which was probably the high light of the hike :)

Note that it is hard to tell where the trail ends. There was no end of trail sign and I found the end of trail spurs the guidebook mentioned hard to find. The one 20yds to the left I think we may have found on our way up but didn’t find the 70yd one so continued up a long ways until we obviously went well beyond it. On the way back down I found what seemed like a likely spot for the 70yd spur and sure enough it was (kind of) a herd path and led to the falls (which we never spotted on the way up!) Gaia only shows the ski trail but the hiking trail pretty much ends where Winniweeta Falls is.

The trail was mostly dry with a few wet and very muddy areas to rock hop on or try to otherwise avoid. Lots of small roads out. Moose tracks near the beginning but not scat although we saw some other scat that I didn’t recognize.
