| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
The trail crew had recently removed a couple of blowdowns on Manning. Someone vandalized the sign at the Vistamont-Clark intersection. I'll report it to the AMC. The blazes and cairns are thankfully in good shape - otherwise I might still be wandering around Firescrew. :-) |

A gorgeous day for a hike! Blue skies, low humidity, dry trails. This is my 4th time hiking Cardigan in different seasons, and it's probably my favorite NH peak. I fellow hiker told me how to find Grotto Cave, which I had never found in the past. Just look for the blue blazes in the first open ledgy spot as you come up from the col from Cardigan toward Firescrew. Follow the blazes carefully, and be prepared to do a bit of scrambling and bushwhacking. When you get to the rock tunnel, take off your pack and belly through. The "cave" is on the far side up the ledge. It's not Carlsbad Caverns, but it's kinda neat. |
