Trail Maintenance Notes: The trail from Cherry Mountain Road is long abandoned so expect conditions to match: mud, fallen trees, potentially challenging trail navigation, etc. However, once onto the portion that comes up from Bretton Woods area it is very well defined to the top.

Comments: abandoned Little Mt. Deception Trail

On my drive in to my earlier hike of the day I scoped the area between sites 3 and 4 and saw nothing from the road. On the way out, seeing I could pull off at camp 3, I parked and explored a bit. While not obvious from the road once into the 'col' midway between the sites the trail somewhat appeared. I followed the footbed with care and it seemed as I ascended the trail become more obvious. I did not see any blazes or flagging but I was almost entirely looking down and forward for the trail (though I did notice one piece of flagging tape on my way out about .25 mile from the road). There are some pretty muddy spots and a few fallen trees to contend with. I had no problems all the way up but I briefly lost the trail twice coming down - each instance was for maybe 20 feet and I quickly hopped back on both times.

Clouds had lifted by the time I got to the E outlook so I got a fine view of Mt. Washington with some visible snow patches hanging on. While there I 'checked the mail' - looks like a pretty popular spot with the locals. If this fine peak were in my back yard I'd be up there a lot, too.
