Trail in good shape, mostly two lanes wide, a few minor blowdowns. |
|
 | Dog-Related Notes: |
Saw a few happy pups out for a humid morning hike. |
|
 | Bugs: |
Trailhead is a mosquito rave. They didn't bother much after some deep application of Cutter (Off). Few black flies. Grass is low, didn't cross path with any ticks. Might be different on trails from the other side of the mountain. Mosquitoes were much less prevalent in the upper half of the mountain. |

Short and very humid hike to try to beat today's rain and thunderstorms. High Watch Trail easy to find and follow, wide, with good footing. A few minor slick areas of exposed rock. Trail is surprisingly steep straight up, gain is +1100 in less than 1.5mi. No views at the summit, but climb the fire tower for views over the tree tops. IMO this fire tower seems more sturdy than on Red Hill. Have read of wasps around the tower in late summer, but none today. A close thunderstorm scrubbed our plans to hop over to Hanson Top, will have to try another day. First visit here. Don't discount the lower elevation, IMO this mountain is worth a hike. |
