| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
We followed driving/road directions from prior trip reports (Thank you!). All roads good and wide.
Paramanchenee Road for 3.6 mi.; L onto Abbott Brook Road for 5.6 mi.; R onto unnamed road for 0.7 mi.; Straight onto West Branch Road for 1.7 mi.; L onto West Branch for 0.5 mi.; slight left onto Tracy Brook Road at fork for 0.8 mi.
When we turned off onto Tracy Brook Road, this road was narrower, but still in fine shape.
As others have done, we drove 0.8 mi. down this road and parked by log landing NE of peak. |

John and I went into this area to get three peaks: W Branch Abbott; Tracy Brk; Lamb Valley. Road all great and all three peaks easily doable in a day.
Active logging within the first couple of miles, and big trucks on the road, so drive carefully.
From the parking spot, NE of the peak, we bushwhacked up this steep and scrappy bugger. Ledges. Blowdowns. Logging regrowth. One wet spot. Not a fun bushwhack... so knowing this ahead of time, we did this one early while we had steam. We aimed for a point on the shoulder just north of the peak, and found the last 0.15 mi. along the ridge to be much easier to bushwhack through.
Search as we might, we did not find a jar. We descended in similar fashion, trying a slightly different line, and stuck a bit more to a scrappy/whippet/overgrown logging road. Glad to have this one done! Round trip was under 1.5 hours.
Another successful NH500 hike with JEM3. |
