Date of Hike: Monday, May 25, 2020
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Next to Slide brook bridge, I took the last of the five slant-parking slots near midday. Someone else arrived shorty after and found room in the shoulder. Nash Stream road was I'm excellent shape. No ruts and few pock marks.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Snow/Ice - Monorail (Unstable), Snow/Ice - Small Patches
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: None to mention.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Small blowdowns on Percy Loop trail (easy to step over). On the South Percy Spur there is one medium blowdowns and many areas in need of brushing. I guess this is normal since it's apparently more of a herd path, even though there's a sign pointing to the trail
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes:
Bugs
Bugs: Moderate in the parking area. Minimal on all trails except Percy Loop where bugs were annoying down low in the more humid areas.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Greenish-gray camouflage hoody hanging from a branch about 1.15 miles in on Percy Peaks trail.

Comments
Comments: A hot day. Thankfully, shade was provided by freshly bloomed leaves on the lower portion of the trail.

Only saw people three times all day.

Percy Peaks trail was 95% dry and only wet where it didn't matter. The spur to South Percy had a few patches of ice (probably gone by now) but micro-spikes weren't needed since you could grab branches or roots for traction when needed. Long pants could be recommended on South Percy due to encroaching branche. I didn't find the register that is supposed to be at the South Percy Summit.

Going down Percy Loop, there were patches of snow and fossils from postholers past between roughly 2700' and 2400' (just before the intersection with Trio trail). Only care is needed, not micro-spikes.

Below the Trio trail, the Percy Loop trail is somewhat buggy and boring. Same for the 1.1 mile road walk. An out-and-back on Percy Peaks trail is a more interesting route. Percy Loop is definitely a good choice if you want something easy on the knees, though.

The South Percy Spur doesn't appear on the 2017 AMC map (apparently unrecognized as an official trail). The Trio trail doesn't appear, either, because it is too new.
