Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Cobble Hill Trail technically ends at the height of land. However, the woods road continues and the map indicates a northern trailhead off Gale Chandler Road. The road is great for the first .3 miles. At a clearing, there is considerable mud and water and the ATV's have made a mess of this section. After that the road continues up to the height of land, sometimes muddy, sometimes pretty rocky but all hikeable and apparently 'ATVable'.

Comments: Cobble Hill Rail (north trailhead), woods road, bushwhack

Hiked about 1 mile up the Class B road (see trail maintenance notes). Took an old woods road that branched off to the right just past another trail to the left which can be seen on the map. Headed towards the summit, keeping a little north of our heading until we started to climb to avoid the swampy areas mentioned in previous posts. Once we started to climb directly to the summit, the woods cleared slightly although there were areas with multiple blowdowns so we kind of zigzagged up. The closer we got, the steeper the climb. Also lots of moss covered boulders. Shortly after crossing the WMNF boundary, we came to a whaleback ridge that went almost all the way to the summit which made for easy climbing. Located the summit canister and antler and cairn and signed in. Went down on a line similar to the one we took up, popping out on the Cobble Hill Trail on another old woods road about 200-300 feet below the one we had taken in. Easy walk back to the car.
