We planned for rain today and headed for the mountains. There was light rain for most of the hike with a short break while we were at the summit, just long enough to take off the rain jacket and let some sweat evaporate. Thanks to Rocket21's report yesterday we left the snowshoes at home. The ice and snow started near the spring before Mt Starr King but was very intermittent. We carried microspikes but never took them out of the packs. Some may prefer to use them but there was also a lot of bare ground. We saw only two other people who had camped in the parking lot and headed up behind us. Lots of nice flowers in the hardwoods going up Mt Starr King. |
