Nice hike / bushwhack to these mountains. Doublehead Mountain - Northeast Peak and Mt Squam are on our NH 500 Highest list we’re chipping away on and Doublehead Mountain was a bonus peak along the way.
From our parking location on Sandwich Notch Road we started up the Crawford Ridge Trail. It’s very steep with a few rock scrambles to start your blood pumping right away. Once through the fun stuff things level off and at the height of land we start bushwhacking northwest in some pencil pine, hit several little bumps and some hit the recognized high point of Doublehead Mountain - Northeast Peak.
After signing in we bushwhack back out to the Crawford Ridge Trail dropping down, then up and down many more time and soon hit Doublehead Mountain. Nice views started picking up at this point and got better as we move along.
We dropped down again, up again several more time like a roller coaster, none of which was difficult and soon hit the recognized high points of Mount Squam. From there we turned around and retraced our steps back to the truck.
