radar showed a brief window this afternoon which matched work schedule so headed north and hit trail head at 3:00.much brighter skies and no rain north of the notches though windy in Crawfords. Some running water in trail and crossing was interesting for sure. No snow to speak of to Webster jackson split. Rail started about 1/4 mile up from there and pretty much constant. Spikes were perfect as the snowshoes got a free ride today. Rail quite narrow in spots..up to 3 feet high in places but very solid the whole way..Some blue ice in places.. "Ramp" ledges to the summit all melted off. Ran into a drizzle line near the spring but while windy on summit no precip. Made it all the way back down to Elephants Head spur before rain started and it was no big deal.
A classic example of why sometimes...you just go..
Nice to c hat with shawn and robbie who were out testing gear today |
