| | Date of Hike: | Friday, May 22, 2020 | | | | | Parking/Access Road Notes: | Lot was maybe 10% full when I arrived, 90% full when I got back at 2pm. | | | | | Surface Conditions: | Wet Trail, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Snow/Ice - Monorail (Stable), Snow/Ice - Monorail (Unstable), Snow/Ice - Postholes | | | | | Recommended Equipment: | Light Traction | | | | | Water Crossing Notes: | Heaviest crossings were just before and just after the intersection of Hancock Notch and Cedar Brook Trails. Lots of heavy moving water. Not many options on those for a dry crossing. I took boots off to stay dry on the way up. | | | | | Trail Maintenance Notes: | Looks like a tornado(s) went through the top along the Hancock Look Trail. Lots of tree debris scattered about. | | | | | Dog-Related Notes: | | | | | | Bugs: | None. | | | | | Lost and Found: | | | |

| | | | Comments: | Monorail on and off till you start up the Hancock Loop Trail. Highly recommend ascending on the north side for the loop. There's about a 100' section of slick ice that could pose some serious problems descending. Those conditions did not exist on the south side. Microspikes are an absolute must. A large section of the Hancock Notch trail is a complete creekbed. With all the slushy ice, mud, and creek crossings, plan on having soaked feet upon return. Very, very difficult to stay dry. I ended up not even trying on the way back and walking through the creeks. Felt great though. Saw about 10 people on the loop. | | | | | Name: | Matt | | | | | E-Mail: | mksoraghan@gmail.com | | | | | Date Submitted: | 2020-05-22 | | | | | Link: | https:// | | | | Disclaimer: Reports are not verified - conditions may vary.
