Comments
Comments: From the parking, we walked up the unmaintained portion of Old Mountain Rd. to the height-of-land southeast of McCoy, then followed a woods road toward the peak, which ended in a loop. From there, it's a very short bushwhack up to the recognized summit (inside the register was a note from the landowner who welcomes hikers, but requests that all trash be carried out). We then took another woods road which dipped to a saddle, where we did a very short bushwhack up to the southwest bump. Back at the saddle, we took the woods road all the way back down to Old Mountain Rd. So, in retrospect, no bushwhacking is needed to reach the high point; it can all be done on roads.

Back at the parking, we did an out and back to Fort via the access road and also took the two short side trips for the views. The walk up and down the road was in full sun, hot, and sapped a lot of energy. Fort is a nice peak, but it would be even better if there were an actual hiking trail in the woods.

Only one person seen all day, a guy on a dirt bike. Also of note is a large housing development under construction near the start of Old Mountain Rd. Whether that will affect future access to this road is unknown. Everything was dry except for Old Mountain Rd., which has a lot of standing water and thick mud due to ORV traffic.
