Comments
Comments: Nice out and back from Sandwich Notch Road to Mt Percival. Did not see another person all day. First .5 or so is steep, much more gradual afterwards. Be careful not to attempt to climb a 60+ degree ledge like we did when you first run into it at the 4/10ths mark. The trail turns 90 degrees right, which was obvious in retrospect, but seeing a large number of pole scratches on rocks straight ahead led us to stupidly climb straight up, and then straight down, when we couldn't find a trail at the top. Rest of hike is along a pleasant ridge walk in and out of ledge. Much up and down for what seems like little elevation change. Reminded me of Wildact E to A in that respect. AMC guide reports the section past Doublehead to Percival to be lightly used and in bad shape. It is clearly lightly used, but other than one small 100 yard section, we found it to be in good shape. Some small amounts of care are required to keep with the trail on the small ledge sections it pops in and out of. Nice alpine pond near Mt Squam.
