 | Comments: |
After parking the cars on the south side of the River Road bridge that crosses the South Branch of the Baker River we headed up the embankment and climbed the ridge in a southerly direction until we intersected with the abandoned road that led us to the mine. We then headed north, climbing gradually and then making a steep ascent to the summit where we found the canister. After signing in and checking out the limited view we descended back to the first of two mines. We explored the entrance and then continued to the larger mine shaft. We found mining artifacts and a mountain of slag. We then climbed the hill checking for other evidence of mining operations that took place here. If anyone knows the history of the mine please contact me. Thanks to Karen for identifying many spring wildflowers popping up from the forest floor |
