More new terrain today and what a great place this is. Lost Lake is a real gem, with a high cliffy ledge overlooking the pond. It also feels very remote and quiet. The old mill ruins in the forest are neat too. Lost Lake Loop was the best of the bunch today, being more rocky and ledgy. Mill Pond Trail had the most areas of mud and standing water, some of which require a bypass.
It was also a good day for wildlife sightings -- a goose and a duck at Lost Lake, a vole along Lost Lake Loop, and we startled a group of *four* otters playing in a brook along Mill Pond Trail. Very cool to encounter them! |
