Went up and back down Bunnel Notch for a Cinco de Mayo Redemption--overall good trail conditions in the colder weather for the day. A mix of progression, from bare in the beginning, to wet, some mud, then patchy snow and the beginnings of a monorail that isn't super stable to consistent stable monorail to extended ice, to the very top needing snowshoes so you don't break through the light crust covering 5+ feet of snow. Was able to navigate fine, though my gps went on the fritz from the cabin and had to follow the oddly placed yellow tree markings to the summit. They probably seem less odd in the summer without 5 feet of snow pushing you into tree branches. Totaled over 12 miles. Only saw 3 others total, who were out with their dogs. Lots of BIG moose tracks. Looks like Momma and baby or babies |
