After parking the truck Reuben and I took a bearing to Eagle Cliff; climbed through recently logged area, found several skidder paths taking me in the the direction to Eagle. I went past the west peak, wanting to explore the east peak. Hiked back to find the jar on West Peak. Then headed in north- westerly direction to Downing, wanting to avoid the stream and wetlands. Found the high point at the western end of the stream and began the climb up Downing, through open woods. Many golden threads and trilliums flowering along with trout lilies, yellow violets and coltsfoot. Found a well worn trail trail with red blazes at about 1,900 ft. Followed it to the summit and signed in. We had a relaxing lunch on the ledges overlooking Stimson Lake. Plan to spend a few moments here to enjoy the view. We returned by the route we can up Downing, but once into the col we headed back to the parking area by following a series of logging roads and snow mobile trails, no whacking. |
