Comments
Comments: Trail is gated. Went around gate and proceeded up wide leaf covered trail through nice, open woods. Trail soon starts to climb, sometimes moderately, sometimes steeply. There are benches at various points along the trail for rest stops. Green diamonds mark the Sheridan Woods trail: this is also part of the Red Hill snowmobile trail system so be sure to follow the blazes. Passed the Scenic trail at .5 mile on our left. Followed the Sheridan Woods trail all the way to the highpoint (@ 1.85 miles) where there is an overlook of the Sandwich Range with a corresponding sign and a picnic table. Back on the trail, we started to descend. Be sure to take the first right after the summit to continue back along the loop. The next fork is with the Red Hill Trail which goes up to the fire tower. We took a right continuing on the Sheridan Woods Trail. Next fork was a sign Do Not Enter, One Way. Take it anyway. The trail with the white rimmed red diamonds is for snow mobiles going in a different direction. At the sign for the Scenic Trail, Garland Pond Overlook, blazed with red diamonds, we took a right. Soon you come to the overlook with an Ossipee Range sign and the overlook. Continuing further, the trail became very steep (almost thinking we would have been better going up this part). No clear trail although clearly marked with the red diamonds. in another .3 miles we made it to the Sheridan Woods Trail intersection, marked No Snowmobiles, and headed down to our car. Probably a good idea to take a map or use Gaia to make sure you take all the right turns....
