THere are a couple of trees down that are easily stepped over or walked around. At about .2 miles in from Route 25 going South there is a very interesting Ash that snapped but didn't separate. It is bent over and twisted exposing the network of fibers making up the tree. I imagine there is a lot of potential energy stored up in that tree. |

Hiked south on the AT for about 1 mile then headed for the summit. The maps indicate the western bump is the summit but as others have said the eastern bump (which is hidden from view by a band of fir) is the recognized HOL. We did not see the cairn on the western bump but found a white quartz cairn on the eastern bump. Found the orange para cord hanging from a tree but no jar until Karen saw it at the base of the mound we were standing on. Looks like an animal chewed the cord and the jar dropped and remained intact. I rehung the jar after signing in. Basically retraced our track back to the AT. Interesting vernal ponds between the two bumps and the frogs were providing a wonderful chorus. |
