Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: 2 creeks were easily hoppable. Tho the second one has a more dramatic dip where there probably was a snow bridge that is now melted. As we were trying to decide the best part to cross and stepped off the monorail, my friend's leg postholed quite deep into the crust and her boot got semi-stuck and we had to dig it out strategically, so do be careful!

Comments
Comments: Was a great day for a hike on Hale. Weather called for slight chance of precipitation and temps to remain below freezing. There was not much precipitation until we start ascending and shortly after starting on the trail (not the road) there was solid snow coverage and it did lightly snow on us throughout the day, but then would go in and out of sunshine. It was very pleasant!

We parked on the side of 302 by Zealand Campground and walked up a dry Zealand Road the 2.5-3 mi to where the Hale Brook trail starts. It wasn't until a few hundred meters into the trail that the trail was snow covered and pretty consistently for the rest of the way. A few hundred meters more we threw on our spikes for extra traction in the snow and it wasn't until about 1/3-1/2 way up Hale Brook that we broke out our poles, which were very helpful and supportive once the incline increased- because there were some very slanted areas where the snow would give way if you weren't super intentional with your footing. Did not need snowshoes but we had them in case conditions changed.

Went with a co-worker and were the only people there!
