| Comments: |
Dry with some minimal mud on bottom 2 miles. Intermittent dry, rocky, ice, packed snow for the rest of the trail. I bare booted and never post holed but previous hikers did. I may have benefited in some areas with light traction. Some icy sections are a bit treacherous but do-able. The descent is a bit tricky at times with ice and wet rocks. I do not recommend descending down Carter and Nickerson Ledges.
Overall a great hike and pleasant trail. No people nor bugs on the summit.
I saw first people while descending. Man+dog who came up Champney Falls, two young ladies ascending via Piper then a solo hiker ascending via Piper (probably his large STABIL spike - it wasn't there when I went up in the morning). Social distancing easily achieved and respected by all. |
