It was a fine outing. Minding all the COVID-19 guidelines, I've been avoiding the long drive up to the Whites in favor of local stuff that's gone neglected for far too long. Nevermore!
Seriously, folks, if you've been reaching for your White Mountain Guide instead of your Southern NH Trail Guide, give strong consideration to reaching for that smaller volume next time. The views aren't as all-encompassing, and you won't be able to peer into the Great Gulf, but those trails stand up just fine on their own merits. Less driving, and you won't have to hike a mile from your car just to get to Appalachia Trailhead.
I had a lovely 5 mile walk in the woods on soft duff with gentle grades. (Great for your knees!) Views included Grand Monadnock, the entire Wapack range, and even as far out as Mt Wachusett. A bajillion twittering birds overhead. No need for snowshoes, or even Micro Spikes, for that matter. In short, a fine day out!
