Comments
Comments: A hike that should have been easy turned into a 4 hour slog. Our party had waterproof winter boots and micro spikes. No points of the trail were particularly difficult, but the snow is loose and about 2-6 of unpacked snow covers the entire trail until you break treeline. Crawford path has 1.5-2.5ft deep snow drifts above treeline. Views at the summit are impressive, especially on a day as clear as today.
Our party intended to hike across to Mt. Jackson during this trip. The Webster Cliff trail is impassible without snowshoes right now, and even then would represent a challenge due to 2+ft of unpacked snow along most of the exposed ridge. The Mizpah cutoff trail is similarly unmaintained.
Descending Crawford was a breeze compared to the ascent. Great hike overall, would be a breeze in the spring/summer!
